Infertility issue becomes more common presently. It was defined as the inability for getting pregnant after 12 months of a frequent and unprotected sexual intercourse. More than 50% caused by the male factor, this is called the Male- infertility. In this topic, I am going to talk about the 7 oral sperm supplements that you can find all over-the-counter to improve and strengthen your sperm’s health.

Basically, nutritional deficiency and oxidative stress are described as factors that make male infertility. Let’s take a look on how good they are and how much should be consumed daily, based on the scientific evidence.

7 scientific-proved sperm supplements

  1. L-Carnitine

L-Carnitine 2 gram a day

L-Carnitine or 3-aminobutyric acid is a natural substance found in diary and red meat products. LC is required for human metabolism. The highest concentration of LC is located in epididymis, the organ that maturing the sperms. High LC concentration has positive relatively with sperms movement. L-Carnitine supplement 2 gram a day for 6 months interval will shows significant in sperms motility in the semen analysis and definitely considered as an important sperm supplement.

Vitamin E, also known as alpha-tocopherol, a fat-soluble antioxidant vitamin, found rich in sweet potatoes, almonds, spinach and avocados has function on neutralizing free radicals and prevent cellular membrane damage from free radicals. Vitamin E 1 gram a day took advantage when using a combination with Vitamin C or others like Selenium; they have shown up a significant of sperms DNA damage’s reduction.

CoQ10, or Ubiquinone is an antioxidant. Several studies showed that the low levels of CoQ10 in infertile men are the most. CoQ10 treatment has positive effect on semen analysis parameters. The recommendation dose is 400 mg a day for 3 months long as a sperm supplement will shows a significant improvement in semen analysis parameter – sperms concentration and sperms motility.

Zinc deficiency play a major role in male infertility problem. WHO has suggested that one-third of world population suffered Zinc deficiency. Zinc is rich in fish, red meat and milk. It serves as co-factor for lots of enzyme responsible for cellular development, DNA transcription and protein synthesis. Zinc sulfate 440 mg a day for 3 months shows a significant increasing in semen volume, semen concentration and sperms motility which is a very outstanding sperm supplement.

Selenium 200 mg a day

Selenium is an essential trace element; more than 25 Selenoproteins have been identified in human and animals. And it helps to maintain the structure integrity of sperms. Combination of Selenium 200 mg with N-acetyl-cysteine 600 mg a day for 30 weeks long as a sperm supplement, will shows a significant increasing sperms concentration, motility and normal morphology.

It is known that in the current trends, Multi-antioxidant supplements are considered as effective therapy in male infertility issue. Based on synergistic effect, a high-dose mono-antioxidant supplement may not necessary to achieve significant improvement in semen analysis result. Lots of literature were performed with varieties of dosage and duration.
